PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear Members,
For this month's message, I want to highlight five areas:
* Schedule change for April
* Upcoming MDM conference in San Francisco and how to get a free pass
* Upcoming elections
* Reflections from DAMA
* Requesting your feedback
Unfortunately, we had an uncontrollable change in our April presenter's
availability and we will not have the "MDM on a shoe string"
presentation in April. In a desire to have continuity, we are going to
continue the "DAMA Membership Database" design brainstorm sessions,
facilitated by our own Francois Cartier. More details are available on
our web site.
That said, there is an upcoming MDM
conference in San Francisco and its organizer, Aaron Zornes, who is
known to many in the analyst and architecture community, has offered us
two free passes ($2000 value) for the first two members that will
respond to the
MDM Salary Survey and send a confirmation email to
Aaron
It is also election time and we are working on updating Board Member
responsibilities. If you are interested, please email me at
president@sfdama.org
Last month was DAMA-I and we had over a 1000 people attending the
conference in sunny San Diego. There were quite a few sessions on SOA as
well as traditional data management topics, semantics, and metadata. We
are hoping to bring some of these speakers to the bay area. Also, there
was an announcement on the updates to the DAMA DMBOK (Data Management
Body of Knowledge), announcement on the new DAMA Dictionary of Data
Management (available through Amazon.com), and the new ICCP
certification on Data Quality. Yours faithfully took the exam and I
think it provided a good overview of many data quality concepts. Yes, I
passed :)
Last, we would like to hear from you. Our meeting attendance is around
10-20 people and we would like to find out how we can bring you to our
events more? Different food? Different topics? Different locations?
Would it help if we hosted a meeting at your company?
Let us know.
Sincerely,
Mehmet Orun
