July / August 2008 NEWSLETTER

Greetings San Francisco DAMA Members,

We are now halfway through 2008. For me, it has been a productive yet busy six months with frequent appreciation of DAMA and our board, as various members of the board provided support during my heavy project load and when we needed the help of contingent resources on my projects, the DAMA network came through in multiple occasions with strong referral and recommendations, that is helping me as a corporate member of our chapter. I hope you also find our community beneficial, from monthly meetings to the networking opportunities.

Before I talk about what is coming next, I want to welcome our new board members and thank our outgoing board members.

Membership Director: Cynthia DeLeon is our new Membership Director. Cynthia joins us from one of our long established and active members SCIF

Secretary:Fred Turner is our new (old) Secretary. Fred was an active member of the board in the 90s and has returned to join the leadership ranks once again.

Resource Director: Open. We are still looking for a Resource Director to help with location planning and get involved in the overall direction of the chapter. If you are interested, please let me know.

I also want to thank our departing board members for their service:

Tom Gaffney served the DAMA board for many years in many capacities. Much of our online event registration and web site history is his legacy and effort. Tom most recently served as Membership Director. He will continue his efforts in data management at SCIF.

Jeff Pekrul was our Resource Director last year. Jeff was recently promoted at his organization and will be focusing on increased responsibility and delivery in data architecture.

Rachel Haverstick was our Secretary who is leaving the San Francisco bay area. She will be working from Missouri as a free lance Technical Writer. Having experienced her work first hand, I know we will miss her here.

Looking forward, we anticipate having a busy six months as we get ready for four more monthly meetings (no meeting in July due to the holiday) followed by DAMA Day, where the theme this year will be around Business Intelligence and Analytics. If you have presentation or speaker suggestions or would like to participate, please email our program director Diby Malakar at programs@sfdama.org

In my first paragraph, I mentioned about the value of network to our membership. To further enable this, we have set up a Members/Invitation only LinkedIn Professional group. Over the next few weeks, our current members will receive an invitation to join the group in LinkedIn. This is entirely optional but can allow you to see who else is a member and further expand your network.

Thank you again for remaining members and your ongoing involvement.
