Topic: Ensuring Solution and Data Quality in Complex Data Environments

Many projects involving complex data integrations fail due to the hidden complexity or lack of understanding around the quality of data, which in turn leads to customer dissatisfaction, loss of revenue, high costs to fix the data, etc. Further, the advent of global enterprises and proliferation of technologies and standards, coupled with business mergers and acquisitions are making it more complex than ever before to integrate and manage quality data.

While the new standards like SOA and Clouds ease the development and deployment challenges associated with data integrations to a large extent by allowing interoperability, SaaS and platform agnostic implementations; they present new challenges around “Testability” of data (It is an important, but still evolving quality attribute for SOA applications). Quality assurance teams have to adopt comprehensive and yet flexible approaches to ensure solution and data quality making use of processes and tools effectively.

The healthcare industry dictates that companies must comply with the various Federal and State laws, as well as guidelines and rules are defined by CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid services), FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and various other agencies, make it very challenging to test the quality of data integrations as the data is acquired, loaded, extracted, transformed and integrated from multiple internal and external sources - involving client-server, data warehousing, Web, SOA, webServices, SaaS, and Cloud applications. This presentation covers the practical aspects of quality assurance, testing strategy and execution for such a complex integration for a compliance solution.
